Coat color inheritance

before the litter arrives.
Pair the known DNA results for a dam and sire to estimate the coat colors their Miniature Schnauzer puppies may inherit.

Litter color outlook
Red pigment depth
Intensity modifier outlook
A relative range for red, cream, gold, or tan pigment where it is visible. These modifiers do not override the main coat loci.
Modifier labels are panel-style placeholders for the five reported intensity regions. Match copy counts to the laboratory’s richer-versus-lighter designation.
How to use it
From test report
to clearer pairing.
Find each genotype
Use the E, K, A, B, D, S, R, M, and intensity modifier results from each parent’s DNA panel.
Select both parents
Match each locus and the reported modifier copy counts for the dam and sire.
Read the range
Percentages describe odds for each puppy, not a guaranteed litter count.
Use results as a conversation starter.
Coat color can involve additional variants, interactions, and breed-specific expression not modeled here. Intensity results are relative polygenic estimates, not named-color guarantees. Roan is shown only with the modeled parti genotype, and merle expression can vary by PMEL allele length. This educational estimate does not replace a veterinary genetics laboratory report, pedigree review, or health testing.
